In September, Operating Engineers 324 joined the American Cancer Society and other partners to bring a touch of the construction world to children undergoing treatment for cancer at Children's Hospital in Detroit. For the past four years, #OE324 has worked with the ACS to put on the Big Dig event to raise money for pediatric cancer research. The event, which has taken place at the OE324 Construction Career Center in Howell the past two years, lets children try their hands at the heavy equipment we operate and maintain daily. But the truth is that some children cannot visit the facility because they are actively undergoing treatment.So this year, we brought the event to them!This year, OE324, alongside MacAllister CAT Rentals, Barton Malow, Fessler & Bowman, Alta Equipment, Eagle Excavating, Stoneco, Cadillac Asphalt, Iafrate, and the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, joined the ACS with equipment right outside of the hospital so that children could come out and operate the machines right on site! We also brought down simulators for those who have to stay indoors but still wanted to get the experience.
