Operating Engineers 324 Endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor

Former State Representative and Senator Has Proven Track Record on Fighting for Infrastructure and Wages

EAST LANSING –– Operating Engineers 324 today endorsed Democrat Gretchen Whitmer for governor because of her proven track record of supporting working people, rebuilding our infrastructure, and protecting wages.

Whitmer served more than 14 years in the Michigan Legislature and spent four years as the Senate Democratic Leader. She was a leader in the fight to keep Michigan’s prevailing wage law, against Right to Work and to improve our roads and other infrastructure.

“No one has fought harder for working people in Michigan than Gretchen Whitmer, whether it was standing up for prevailing wage or fighting back against Right to Work. Operating Engineers 324 is proud to endorse Gretchen as our next governor because we know she will put working men and women first,” said Operating Engineers 324 President Ken Dombrow.

Whitmer said she is honored to have OE 324’s support.

Together, we’re going to fix the damn roads, improve education and skills training, expand access to affordable health care, and repeal the retirement tax.”

Whitmer has made “fixing the damn roads” a top priority in her campaign in the open governor’s race.

“Right now, the average Michigander pays $540 a year on vehicle repairs. It’s time we start fixing our roads instead of fixing our cars,” Whitmer said. “Everyone should be able to take their kids to school or drive to work safely without blowing a tire or busting a windshield. As governor, I’ll make sure we fix the roads the right way the first time, with high-quality materials, mix and the best professionals like those in Operating Engineers 324 so we get the job done right.”
