Job-seekers looking for good-paying careers as stationary engineers, HVAC techs invited to pick up job training applications on Feb. 15
DETROIT – Operating Engineers 324 is inviting job-seekers who want good-paying careers as stationary engineers and HVAC technicians to pick up job training applications in Detroit on Friday, Feb 15.
The applications are available at OE324 Stationary Education Center at 1550 Howard, Detroit. The applications will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. OE324 is offering a limited number of applications, which will be given out on a first come, first served basis.
“Michigan needs skilled workers who can help us meet Michigan’s economic demands, and Operating Engineers 324 is excited to help connect men and women with good-paying careers as stationary engineers and HVAC technicians,” said OE324 Stationary Education Training Director Jim Arini. “We encourage anyone who’s looking for a job that pays well, that’s challenging and that provides a sense of pride and accomplishment at the end of the day to visit us on Feb. 15 and apply. This is a great opportunity for folks to begin an apprenticeship in a high-demand area, earn while they learn and join the camaraderie of the best trained workers in the field.”
Interested individuals must apply in person and present a valid Michigan driver’s license. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be 18 years or older
• Be a high school graduate or have a GED
• Be a U.S. citizen or is legally allowed to work in the United States
• Be physically able to perform the work of the trade and undergo a physical
• Pass a drug test if accepted for training
Applicants who return a completed application and the required supporting documents will be scheduled for a written aptitude test. Successful applicants must have a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel to job assignments throughout Michigan.
Careers in skilled jobs such as stationary engineers and HVAC technicians start with apprenticeships, or rigorous training and education programs. Apprentices will work on job sites and receive good wages and benefits, including healthcare and pension benefits, during their training. OE324 stationary engineers and HVAC technicians work on high-profile sites all over Michigan, including the Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit, Detroit Public Schools, university buildings across the state, Detroit Metro Airport, the Detroit Zoo and many other locations.
Apprenticeships last a minimum of three years and 6, 000 hours or four years and 8,000 hours for a stationary engineer. For HVAC technicians, apprenticeships last four years and 8, 000 hours. Programs include supervised work experience and related school instruction.
Stationary engineers are responsible for the operation, maintenance, renovation and repair of boiler systems and all other mechanical systems in a facility. They work in schools, hospitals, hotels, apartment buildings, shopping malls, airports, power plants, industrial and manufacturing plants, breweries, co-generation plants, petro-chemical plants, office and commercial buildings, government facilities and other workplaces. HVAC operators are responsible for running heating and cooling systems in large buildings. Michigan is looking to fill hundreds of positions in these two areas. About 300 people participate in the OE324 program each year, and OE324 is looking to bring on hundreds more.
